Treason is still a federal offense, punishable by penalties up to and including death. Terrorists have been and are currently being prosecuted under federal statutes. What difference does it make?
Just watch, Sylvan, I am sure that the GOP Congress will assure that we all have equal healthcare in this country......not......
I agree. We have to stop ignoring the elected's crimes against our country!!
Congrats. to the G.O.P. for taking back the House, and even though losing the Senate there are probably more than a few Democrats who may vote with the G.O.P. on many issues after all the heat they've taken..California, Oregon,a nd Washington deserve what they get..all those Bohemian Hippies just will never learn..Linda Rondstadt will probably come out of the woodwork and move back in with her hippie hero...
The only consolation that we progressives have after the rise of the unenlightened in this election is that the west coast still remains largely liberal. Yes, we deserve what we get, which, in this case, is a culture that is far more tolerant and accepting than found in the chiefly GOP-ruled states, like Texas.
You like to call yourselves "progressives" but you are actually REGRESSIVES. When you keep going to the failed ideologys of the past you are not progressing!!

And I do agree with you on one thing... you should reap what you have sown. The fed should never give ANY money to California for any reason... ever. Or any other failed state. If progressiveness, or isn't it regressive, is so great and wonderful, you should never have any such problems... ever!! History tells us you are WRONG!! The simple fact that cal is $50.000.000.000 (that is BILLIONS) into the toilet tells us a lot!! And you all are still spending more and more and more... Some people just never learn.

e
Bob, I am unhappy about our state deficit as well. We have now reduced that amount to $16 Billions, which is still far too much, in my opinion, but, no, we are not spending additional amounts. For example, local colleges have reduced teaching staff by 25% in core curriculum courses and other state funded services have likewise been pared.

It might interest you to know that, in my birthstate of Texas, they, too, are beginning to experience budgetary difficulties. Seems that every state in the union is having difficulty, thanks to our national economy. California, as always, leads the nation in almost every trend, even this undesirable one....

Finally, I would rather live in Cali and struggle with a debt problem than any Red State that is ruled by conservative majorities.....Peace....
Are you saying Bill that you favor progressives? That is just another name for a communists. Is this you?
Yes Angela - that is what Cole was saying. He is a flaming Progressive by his own admission, and I don't think he appreciated me standing up to him. Ahhhh! And here I though I was better looking than Timothy McVeigh (personally, I don't see the resemblance that Cole saw). Hahahahaha!
I believe Cole was right about one thing... I heard the Cal is so far in debt that they are not paying all their debts now. Paying by some sort of... "gov't Script" or IOUs??

Someone let me know if I am remembering wrong here.

Afraid your wrong again. Tolerance is what our founders had in mind before the gradual distortion of American ideal of Liberty.

"Though written constitutions may be violated in moments of passion or delusion, they furnish a text to which those who are watchful may again rally and recall the people."-Thomas Jefferson, 1802

"There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."
-James Madison, speech to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, 1788

"The same prudence which in private life would forbid our paying our own money for unexplained projects, forbids it in the dispensation of the public moneys." –
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Shelton Gilliam, 1808

“The death-knell of the republic had rung as soon as the active power became lodged in the hands of those who sought, not to do justice to all citizens, rich and poor alike, but to stand for one special class and for its interests as opposed to the interests of others.”
-Theodore Roosevelt, Labor Day speech at Syracuse, NY, Sept 7, 1903
The folks on this site would have despised Theodore Roosevelt, for he fought for the common man and against the big business interests that, prior to his administration, more or less did what they pleased, much to the harm of the average citizen.
