Could you please explain to me what you mean by a militia, what and who does a militia consist of, and how does said militia work against tyranny of the government?
In my mind, a militia is a bunch of citizens taking up arms and overthrowing the government. Please correct me where I am wrong.

Militias only fight during times of actual conflict with open tyranny in Government. During times of peace, militias are a "friendly reminder" to Government to remember its place and the will of the People. Like the National Guard, militias are there to maintain a state of readiness in case they are ever needed to fight tyranny in Government. Militias are a show of strength, or a reserve of able-bodied armed citizens that can be called upon, when needed, to respond to Government aggression. Militias are a check and balance of We the People on Unrestrained Government.
If this doesn't help you to understand militias and not fear them, go check out some of their sites on the Internet and actually do a little "fair and balanced" research on your own, Roger. Perhaps Gary or someone else here will bother to post an article on the militias to more thoroughly present them in a fair and balanced light.
This forum is not about militias, per se, so let's focus on the bigger picture of stopping the Socialist Revolution. Fear mongering over the militias does not serve our cause or movement.

I understand that this thread is not about militias per se; yet this thread began by talking about them.
When was the last time a militia was formed and what was the outcome of that formation?
If we Patriots are going to make good choices, we need to know as much information as possible and not let emotions get in our way.

This thread did not begin by talking about militias! While Christopher Culpen brought up the casual point to Jaro that militias are growing across this country, it was you that went on an emotional Liberal rampage against the militias. You jumped on Christopher's point and blew it way out of proportion and focus to hijack this forum and turn it against the militias! So, let's get back on track here and focus on the bigger picture of what all we can do to stop the Socialist Revolution that now threatens all of us.
If someone wants to start up a new discussion thread to go into detail about the militias, their history, who they are, and their proper role in this society under our Constitution, please go ahead - but not here in this forum. Now! Is that plain enough for you, Roger??!

I apologize for stirring such controversy over the whole "militia" deal. Just making a statment to Jaro, but thanks for having my back on that issue. That being said, let me clarify a few things.
MILITIA - The term militia (in English, pronounced as milisha) is commonly used today to refer to a military force composed of ordinary citizens[1] to provide defense, emergency law enforcement, or paramilitary service, in times of emergency without being paid a regular salary or committed to a fixed term of service. It is a polyseme with multiple distinct but related meanings.
From different articles I have read there are a growing number of militias coming up across the country getting ready for a socialist takeover. Other countries across the world have also done this very same thing. The term MILITIA DOES NOT MEAN VIOLENCE.
Now, that also being said, just as we see with the "fringe" elements of the political (left) media, the supposed "party" groups... you will have your crazy nuts!! That doesn't mean we all are. We are just trying to get back to the basics of what this once great country can get back to.

Thanks, Gary! I'm sure your thread might spark some debate on the militia issue.
While I have heard the argument that the militias are now nothing more than the National Guard, I have heard other valid arguments that the original militias were nothing more than all able-bodied adult citizens of these united States. In essence, if you are an adult and able to carry a weapon in defense of this country, then you are a member of the Militia (whether or not you are a member of the military or National Guard). I tend to agree with the latter opinion, but many folks might disagree. While the National Guard may have some similarity with the Militias, I do not believe they are one and the same entity.
Regardless of which opinion one might hold on this topic, the militias are still a legal, viable, and constitutional protection against tyranny for We the People. Fortunately for our country, the militias have never had to be called into action - but this doesn't suggest that they will never be called into action. Whether or not folks join a militia is completely up to them, but I know a lot of good folks that have joined a militia and not regretted it. We don't need to fear the militias because the militia is us!
Now, other than militias, we still have many other avenues to stop the Socialist Revolution and take back our country (like getting more involved in local politics, teaching the Constitution to our friends and neighbors, volunteering our time and energy to helping strong Conservative candidates into office, and generally speaking up for America wherever and whenever we get the opportunity to do so).
There are many things we can and should be doing to guarantee good results in the upcoming elections. If you are good at blogging, then get your blogs out - don't just post them on sites friendly to Conservatism. If you are good at raising money, there are good strong Conservative candidates that could really use your help in this area. If you can volunteer your time to get more involved in local politics, like becoming a Precinct Committeeperson, then get out and do so. Other actions might be passing out flyers and booklets that support and teach the Constitution, or holding local classes and seminars to teach civics and the Constitution. There are still many things that need to get done!
If we sit back and expect others to do all the work for us, then we will probably lose the November elections - and these elections are the most crucial elections in recent history (certainly within my lifetime). Whatever you can do, in any capacity whatsoever, just get out and do it. Other than the few options that I just listed, does anyone else have any constructive ideas to share with the rest of us? That is the focus of this forum!

Gary - it seems we are both correct here! The Organized Militia is the National Guard, but the Unorganized Militia is every able-bodied adult male between the ages of 18 and 45 that isn't already a member of the Guard or active duty military forces. But, in recent decades, there hasn't been a lot of mutual cooperation between the National Guard and the unorganized State militias - which really is a crying shame!

You and Gary have handled the touchy militia question very adeptly. Since there is a fairly large cohort of testosterone-driven individuals out there, the issue arises regularly in any debate about limiting the powers of this now-unabashed, lawless Leviathan.
Thus, I thank you for: a) getting Gary started on that thread, so as to focus on the issue of SELF-GOVERNMENT, rather than armed conflict; and b) discussing options for effective self-government.
In answer to the recent TCUnation article, "The Most Powerful Office in the World?" -- which meant to suggest that this distinction fits precinct chairmen of political parties -- I posted a comment disagreeing with the premise. I think Madison would have disagreed with it as well; and I *know* that George Washington would have disagreed with it.
Politics has become precisely the morass that George Washington predicted it would, if we sought answers there. Partisanship appeals to the baser instincts of the playground and the fields of human contest where people form sides and square off. The *reductio ad absurdam* of this tendency, is the modern urge to "take it to the streets", which is of course NOT what the Militias of the Several States were all about, when they were common (in the colonial and early expansion periods).
Our problem is not government; our problem is US. We are ignorant of history, civics, economics, and tactical wisdom. Thus we have no idea what is happening to us, why it is happening, how they pull it off perennially, and what might be done about it. Thus we grab the nearest rock or axe-handle, and we want to swing. The political operative knows this...so he makes sure we swing at "the other team", rather than at those powerful individuals and groups that have owned our presidents and members of Congress since time-out-of-mind.
We have a great deal of work to do, beginning with just learning some very basic stuff that they won't teach in schools or colleges...even in grad school. AmericaAgain! is a membership organization exactly aligned with, and philosophically in alliance with, TCUnation.
We are the first citizen mechanism designed to put perennial, sharp teeth in the 9th and 10th Amendments, leaving that process AT NO POINT in the hands of politicians (local, county, state, or federal)...but entirely in YOUR hands, from your home computer, on your timetable.
Through our Patrick Henry Hall(tm) we hope to teach the things you didn't learn in school; things that James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, John Witherspoon, Ben Franklin, Patrick Henry, et al fully expected you to know, so that We The People could constrain our federal creature perennially.
Through our AmericaAgain! Indictment Engine(tm) our legal section under the direction of our Chief Counsel and the AmericaAgain! Liberty Labs(tm) database team, will constantly monitor every member of Congress for indictable crimes committed against STATE criminal statutes, as they also violate the US Constitution's limits. When we have a sufficiently high target value with a number of perpatrators (not just one at a time; state judges are wimps, so you must put up bills of information in FLEETS), we pull the trigger on a tranche of indictment efforts, and our members pack the courthouse as co-plaintiffs...instead of walking in circles on the courthouse lawn, with posters.
It will not take many criminal perp-walks -- imagine Barney Frank in an orange State Penitentiary jumpsuit and leg chains, like Bernie Madoff? Having the State seize all assets, including offshore trusts and domestic blind trust assets -- to show that We The People mean business from now on, when dealing with multi-trillion-dollar criminals.
We will begin drafting powerful yet very brief, plain-English reform laws (16 in the hopper thus far) to virtually restore all the liberties that have been hijacked by the DC al Qaeda over the past 150 years. We will push these 2-10 page laws on our elected officials, exactly as powerful mercantilists and industries have pushed their 2,000-page laws on them for a century now. They will sign on, or we will seek their prison term and asset seizure.
Hardball. Without firearms, and without even tar & feathers. But there's more.
The third tactical aspect is our AmericaAgain! Tax Honesty Project (tm), for which our national spokesman is former IRS-CID agent Joe Banister, who has been a Tax Honesty spokesman for many years. You embargo the terrorists' cashflow. You put some of the terrorists into their State Penitantiary and take all their stuff for doing those high crimes. You start making the terrorists go legitimate, by passing OUR legislation, to restore the Constitution and rule of law.
As William Wallace's uncle Argyll said in Braveheart: "First we teach you to use this(your brain), before we teach you to use this (the sword)". As you said, Jim: the American citizenry has not yet begun to use our first-round defenses of the Constitution; it certainly is not time to think about armed insurrection, for God's sake.

Thanks David for the compliments and for giving us some information about AmericaAgain! You made some excellent points and espoused some interesting ideas and strategies for fighting back in a non-violent manner. But please understand that TCU is not in the habit of recommending other sites and organizations because we simply don't have the time or manpower to check them out ourselves and vet them. I will try to check out your organization on my own, and I would freely encourage others to do the same.
