Deal falls short of GOP cut pledge; 'As good as we could get,' Boehner says

"The bipartisan deal struck late Friday falls short of the House Republican campaign pledge to cut $100 billion in fiscal 2011 spending.
The pact cuts $78.5 billion when compared to President Obama's fiscal 2011 budget request, which was never enacted.
Comparatively, the accord cuts $39 billion in actual spending, which is $22 billion less than bill the House passed in February.
In a brief interview, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told The Hill the agreement was "as good a deal as we could get."
All I can say is good luck in 2012 John--you and your wishy washy Republi cant's better be able to get reelected without us conservatives. The way I see it: It's official you Liberal country club Republicans are part of the problem. You want to make excuses and pat yourself on the back while all you've done is give Obama and Reid and Pelosi political cover to continue the lurch leftward? Let me put it simply: These cuts are nothing--what they amount to is a couple hundredths of a percent of the total budget and you got "as good a deal as we could get" and you want to brag about it? You that stupid John? What am I saying, obviously you are.
We Conservatives who put you in office--yes we Conservatives put you in that seat not the Independents, not the Libs and certainly not the public sector unions--to speak for us while we've been maligned and insulted by the likes of Schummer, Reid, Pelosi and the rest of them? and you got "as good a deal as we could get." The worst part in this sorry pathetic act of political theater? Letting those liberal hacks use our brave men and women in uniform as a bargaining chip while you cowering and genuflected as you got "as good a deal as we could get." Good luck John you and the rest of your boys in leadership are officially the right wing of the Democratic Party and part of the problem.
Now that I've aired my displeasure which I know most of you share. What are we going to do about it? At this point I'm open to suggestions how to deal with this mess and obvious error in our collective judgment.
I'm thinking Bachmann for President and Scott Walker for VP would be a good start. These two seem to be the most forthright and actually do what they say they are going to do. Maybe supporting and voting for only the House candidates who would vote to elect Ron Paul as Speaker and only Senators who would pledge support for DeMint to lead in the Senate. It obvious the current GOP leadership doesn't have the stomach to do what we put them there to do, so all the old bulls have to be either put out to pasture or relegated to day to day roles not Leadership roles as obviously they don't know the meaning of the word.
Like I said at this point I'm open to ideas. Unless something drastic happens in the next few hours I can honestly say I believe and would argue the Republican experiment of Nov. 2010 has failed miserably--at least the leadership has.

At some point a line needs to be drawn in the sand and someone has to say, "this far and no further."
If not now when? I for one don't believe the answer is contentment with just a "slowing" of the leftward lurch. If we don't force these GOP leaders to take a stand now there may very well be no reason to take a stand in the future. Your base argument of relative wellness is fine and dandy for discussion purposes but the fact remains the national debt is rapidly approaching 100% of GDP and even at current levels the debt may all ready be past the point of no return.
I for one would rather stand for principle, ideas and ideals ultimately failing--if that be the public's will--rather than being content with having "better" instead of what's needed. When people like Gingrich and Romney and McCain, people like Collins, Brewer, Brown, and the rest of them take the stage and call themselves conservatives it damages not just their own reputations and credibility but ours as well.
I gave up on being a political pragmatist a long time ago for one simple reason: the left is never happy. We need to start playing by the same set of rules as they do.

I never said to settle for anything, Cesidio... that is not the message at all. What I am saying is that we make progress a step at a time -- not in one fateful charge into battle. I am all for drawing lines in the sand. But I've watched person after person be thrown to the wolves so to speak in these discussions because we find one pet value we disagree with them on... and end up throwing away some good people in the process.
The purpose of my note was to remind us all that we need to be making progress in any way we can in all of those areas -- sometimes it will by necessity be small steps because we can't stop the momentum others have set in motion overnight. There are other times when we need to encourage our leaders to draw that proverbial line in the sand and stick to it.
I have no problems in throwing the RINOs out ... when it can be done (the next election). in the meantime, we need to work together on the things we can do something about .. and part of that is to help build up and encourage our representatives, not just tear them apart because we disagree over something they don't agree with us about. Let's choose our battles wisely!
Hope you and others truly can understand what I'm trying to convey....
