Well, here is a new thought.

I wonder if any of you were Independents before becoming Republicans. If so, you know what changed your mind: If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
I have to assume that the liberal leaning Independents went to the Democratic party for the same reason. However, more than 40% of the electorate is Independent and, according to Rasmussen Polls, the numbers are rising. This, added to the fact that Republicans hover around 3o% as compared to a larger, around 40% of Democrats, should we discard these numbers and merrily dismiss our Independent friends? The polls show that both Democrat and Independent voters are less and less enthralled with the present state of affairs in Washington.
Since our nation's Constitutional existence is at stake, wouldn't it make sense to forge alliances that could secure a victory in the midterm elections and onwards to 2012?

Should we consider welcoming the disaffected conservative Independents? If you are among those of us who agree with the idea of uniting to form a conservative, Constitutional consensus and Alliance to defeat Obama in 2010 and 2012, please come join in and help us grow our new group

I know we have many Independents in this country, and I have campaigned hard for them on sites like this, but I was not aware of their projected numbers being near the 40% mark. I guess it goes to show that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans can afford to dismiss them so lightly (and goes to show that they deserve a place in our national politics - as I have been trying to say all along). The reality here is that I don't think the RNC will woo them with empty promises of "conservative reforms." And if we don't welcome them, I'm sure the Democrats will by default. Hmmmm . . . .
when america wakes up in 2010 , i think powers are going to shift. we the people are tired of not being heard . the democrats are fighting democrat, the only thing we can do right now is watch these fights and wait. i do think many independents will go right in the next election . i just hope that the damage is fixable once republicans win back these seats. trillion is not suppost to be a common word in our budget , now every thing cost trillions !?!? china is more than happy to loan obama the money ,because money is power .
No doubt ... power over us and the whole US. It dictates the terms to us, whereas we used to b e able to set the terms ourselves. The money we borrow enslaves us to accept China's standard of quality in products, and it will continue to erode our economy until the US Dollar is no longer the money standard across most of the world. Like you, John, I hope it isn't too late by the time we can gain control of Washington again -- but this time we need to put people in that will return power to the people (states) and not just vest it in the central government. The monopoly of congress needs to be broken up, and then our debt paid off to China so we can free ourselves from the slavery of it. THAT is going to cost every one of us big time. Let's not forget who borrowed the money on our signatures.
I'm afraid Dave that the dollar has already been abandoned as reserve currency by the World Bank. We will likely begin seeing the effects of this before the end of this year. We are at present pawns in the hands of the Federal Reserve Bank and it's affiliates and the IMF. To think that Obama is simply turning a blind eye to what is happening is disingenuous. He has signed our country away purposely.
And that is the reason why I posted the question. Is it time to all come together to stop this?
Without doubt, it will take a united front of both Republicans and Independents to turn the tide ... but I'm not sure personal pride and good reason will allow either Republicans or Conservative Independents to give ground on "their" arguments ... so sad, because the desired outcome is the same by the majority of both groups ... to return to social conservatism with limited Government and personal freedoms protected.

Have a good one
Perhaps we could just focus on forming strong mutual alliances without asking either side to give up their own party views and private agendas? Alliances are more about give and take than about assimilation; and we do have many common interests, views, and goals that we can agree on to form needed alliances - even if we disagree about different aspects of Conservatism, in general.

I wonder if anyone has actually approached folks like Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ron Paul, Sarah Palin, Russell Kirk, Anne Coulter, and Laura Ingraham and asked them to form a "Conservative Alliance" for uniting our fighting factions around common causes and values?! Hmmmm . . . . why didn't I think of something like this before now?!! I may be on to something here . . . .
Jim - this is a great thought... a very big idea and important question to put to our remaining conservative leaders. I'd like to see conservative candidates REFUSE to discuss divisive subjects along the periphery and hammer, hammer, hammer home only the mutually agreeable positions of extreme fiscal responsibility - frugality if you will - and limited government with personal freedoms - along with our CONSTITUTION (remember that Obama???) - protected. Each of us need to contact our conservative voices and get the Conservative Alliance movement on its way.
Jim,

That's a great idea. I have a friend that produces many ot these talk shows. I will ask him about it real soon. We all have to stop thinking only our group has the answers and the right path to achieve the desired goal. We do need somekind of coalition.

I will try to remember to get back to you on this. if you don't hear from me, email me and remind me. My email is fh606352@gmail.com
Thanks, Frank - but are you sure you want to leave your private email up? I have your information if you want to delete this post before someone can spam your address.
I cannot speak for others, Lee, but my rallying cry is all about the Constitution for the sake of all good Americans and Patriots - especially where Conservatives and Constitutionalists are in full agreement with our Constitution.
Dave, I would certainly support a united front. I just don't expect the GOP to cooperate. I believe this is exactly how they wanted things to go. I believe they are really part of the Democrat party.
Don - there is a lot of bad blood between Conservatives in both the Republican and Independent camps. It is highly probable that we will never see a "united front" between both of these camps, or much cooperation from either side, but some of us are more willing than others to try to form alliances and coalitions between our camps. To each their own I guess.

Will tempers and suspicions flare? Absolutely. Will Republicans and Independents continue to piss each other off over our Conservative and party disagreements? You know it. So why even bother? Because, like it or not, we need each other in this grassroots Conservative movement -- and there are many stubborn folks in both camps that will never like it, or barely tolerate it at best!

My best advice is to allow both camps to think they have the higher Conservative ground, if that's what it takes to keep everyone happy, as long as we can form some crucial alliances and coalitions for our greater cause and movement. I hope this makes sense to everyone, and I hope it will help to cut down on some of the needless bickering and ping-pong slams between our camps?! (And, for the sake of forming crucial alliances, I will proudly keep one foot in both camps! I'm ambidextrous that way.)
