In a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court today struck down large portions of the abomination known as the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law, especially those aspects of the law that imposed restrictions on corporate spending on political issues.
Naturally, President Obama immediately issued a statement opposing the decision. As the Washington Post reports::
With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics. It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans. … We are going to talk with bipartisan congressional leaders to develop a forceful response to this decision.

So there it is: the President and members of the Mandarin Class are preparing a “forceful response” to the First Amendment.

Had enough yet?

Laura,
I find myself in mild disagreement and that is rare. A good deal of our government is now bought and paid for by unions.
I find it troubling that so many don't know what every shade tree mechanic knows, which is you must find the problem before you can fit it. Corruption at such a massive scale is only possible with a government that is so bloated (the problem). The fix for this problem is to shrink the government.
By the way, reform is another good liberal word that means to make a bad situation worse with more government.
I wonder where we differ Mike. I believe we are saying the same thing?
Sorry, I was too obtuse.

Laura says "our government is indeed a commodity run by a bunch of corporate elites". I think a good deal of our government is now run by unions rather than corporate elites. In fact more to the point it has become coin operated and they run around looking for who can provide them with coins. They are equal opportunity harlots.

So I was trying to say in a roundabout way that the problem is bigger than corporate elites buying favors. As I said it was a minor point.
Big unions and big corporations may be fighting it out over wages and benefits, but I think they are flip sides of the same coin - and they both have their hands in the Government's purse (aka, the People's wallets)! By limiting the size of Government, would this not clean out much of the corruption going on in the unions and corporations??! At least in regard to nationalized socialism and fascism.
Exactly. The government is so big and so intrusive that corruption is inevitable. Any and all attempts to hinder the flow of money will fail. Some honestly believe the government can solve a problem that the government creates. For others campaign finance reform is a fig leaf to make people believe they are addressing the issue seriously. From some of the posts here it looks like the fig leaf works for weaker minds.

The only way out is a return to the limited government envisioned by the Framers.
Absolutely! And the Conservative choir said, "Amen!"
This will explain what I meant! Please read "Unions are Corporations Too!"

I stand corrected. Thanks for routing me to the link for my refresher course. When I get bucked off, I just get back on.

It looks to me like you are both addressing the same problem - how to best shrink the bloated behemoth we call Big Government that is eating away our national posterity!

So-called Liberal reforms are bankrupting this country, and we desperately need to shrink Government and restore our Constitutional checks and balances. It's going to take, dare I say it, "money" to get that message out and support the Right candidates for public office - after all, they do have to compete against Liberal Progressive Socialist candidates backed by billionaires like George Soros and his ilk . . .
It's all a mute point, guys, if you would just realize that most of those in Washington are really just aliens in human form. How could they possibly understand our human devotion to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?

he who holds the gold makes the rule! And we need to understand we really do hold the gold in ths country! our money is the money that runs this country and we just need to start telling people to say this is what you will do if you want my money the progressives have been doing that for years and it works for them it can work for us too!
I got a e-mail from the NRA TELLING ME THEY WILL be protecting my 2nd amendment rights thanks to the supreme court ruling! Thank you NRA my money will be well spent!!!!
