"Our new missile defense architecture in Europe will provide stronger, smarter and swifter defenses of American forces and America's allies," Obama said. "It is more comprehensive than the previous program.

"Because our approach will be phased and adaptive, we will retain the flexibility to adjust and enhance our defenses as the threat and technology continue to evolve," he added.

Gates said the new system will allow for a "distributed sensor network" as opposed to a "single fixed site."

Speaking from the Pentagon, he said the interceptors can be deployed in northern and southern Europe as well as on ships. He said a second phase to begin in 2015 could result in missiles being placed on land in Eastern Europe."


I will say I am probably one of the last people on earth to defend anything Obama has done or is doing, but I think the jury is still out on this strategy. I have to admit I wasnt fully onboard with the Czech missile shield project and felt it was lacking. This new strategy might be better actually unless of course its a ploy to divert defense spending into other social programs. Now that is something I would believe.

The American public probably does not know or understand how much the Polish and Czech governments went out on a limb to sell the Missile Shield to its constituents. Sure the official reason was to protect Europe from Iranian ICBMs which could be potentially nuclear armed, but the former Russian East European hegemon has not been hesitant to military muscle with former Communist members of the old Soviet Empire (can you say, "Georgia?"

The Missile provided a little comfort for future Russian aggression against European nations. President Barack Hussein Obama has in effect sold out Eastern Europe in protecting from Russian aggression as well as Iranian ICBMs.

It is like when America looked the other way at the end of WWII as the old Soviets spread Communist repression on Europe. I am sure the Czechs remember how America failed to support democracy in when the old Czechoslovakia rebelled in against Soviet hegemony with the Prague Spring.

I feel like I'm in some bad movie where we think the good guys are good (congress and the senate and the president). Then bam the good guys turned out to be our enemy all along. Why cant we find charges to impeach this coward so that he doesn't do any more damage to this beautiful country of ours. Heaven help us, I have children that have a lot to fix already. This man is far from the greatest... more like the greatest "lier" ever.

I think this is the biggest mistake yet; Our Dear President has made...Health Care, Banks, Education, and now the instability of an alliance with the Polish....I just returned from working in Afghanistan with our American Soldiers..Our Dear President is requesting more soldiers to "Finish the Job that President Bush did not"..God he is such an @#$...I wonder if Pres Obama is aware that one of our greatest supporters of the Afghanistan War is Poland? I worked side by side these Polish troops training the ANA and the ANP...Now our dear Pres has placed a dagger into the very heart of these brave soldiers.....mmmm I guess he was doing this so we look like a placid weak nation and accepting to this "New Philosophy of Socialism"... I do not think that he understands the resolve of our Great Nation...We are Nation Under God, and we believe in Liberty and Justice for All...at any cost ....We will Stand...An old Airborne saying Mr. President, "Get your Head out of your Fourth Point of Contact" begin to Govern for the American People not your ideas of Socialism.
