"Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the police officer who arrested him will meet with President Barack Obama at the White House at 6 p.m. Thursday, a senior administration official said."

Absolutely Not! I thinks it's insulting that he (Obama) thinks he can do or say whatever he pleases. He still has not apologized. Oh and I love how his press secretary came out and said something along the lines of the Police Union voted for McCain! What the heck is that about? as if that gives Obama the right to insult our law enforcement!

they didn't arrest him for being in his own home...they were called by neighbors so it in the eyes of the police a robbery in action...they did not know who he was and when they tried to talk to him h became biligerent...if that had happened to me i would gladly have proven who i was and i would have thanked both the police and my neighbors for being concerned about my well-being... so stop the race issue buddy....gates and obummer made fools of themseves and showed just how racist they are

i would not want a beer with a person who thins like you do...the police did not know there was no crime...the call came in as a possible breakin...gates just should have shown his id and let it go at that..the racist had to take it a step further and get all stupid....then add the obummer into the mix...yiping like a neutered dog about stupidity...they are the stupid ones...and im thankful they are showing their true colors

I support law enforcement. But how is it not stupid to arrest a man in his own home when there is obviously no crime. Professor Gates was being/is a total jerk. So what. They're supposed to deescalate the situation. Instead, they arrest him? Comon - they lost their cool and now it's a national 'incident' because Gates is a national figure.
That said - I'm always up for a cold beer. Even with you guys. So, yes. Have a beer. Get over it.

Yes, he should. Obama admitted he was wrong and apologized, which doesn't happen very often. By having a beer with him extends this fact into the next news cycle instead of it getting buried within the next 3 days.

Let's keep this focused on Gates' attitude. I believe Professor Gates' actions are racist in nature. There was no call for his response. I don't care if he was arrested in his own home. The responding officer had an obligation to investigate this matter. Mr Gates was totally in control of this situation. It was his own fault that he was arrested. The responding officer did his job correctly and professionally.

yes, and when the beers are gone, you know the t.v time will not be to far behind. That's when Sgt. Crowley should ask for the words "I'm sorry " for his department and law inforcement across the land. Put him on the spot, one that the tellopromter can't help with.
