Was kicked out of Woodman's Grocery store in Onalaska Wisconsin because of legally carrying a firearm in a open carry holster.

Jan. 25, 2010 WOODMAN'S GROCERY STORE IN ONALASKA WISCONSIN! Customers asked to leave because they were armed and open carrying.

Woodman's Grocery discriminates against gun owners in general and is
holding to a Liberal bias against guns and gun owners. They are anti-
2nd Amendment.

Use what few freedoms we have left and vote with your wallet.
Sorry to tell you but my land is mine and I make the rules! It is not anti 2ad to say I don't want your loaded gun in my house it is not a public place and a store is owned by a person that person has the right to say what happens to or on his land! look up the constitution and learn about your property rights. If I tell you you can't own or carry on public land of any type that is anti 2ad!!!!!!!!!! and I own 9 guns right now and a member of the NRA,and a few gun clubs!
then explain how the government can tell a business it has to be smoke free if the owner doesnt want it to be.i agree with you that you own the land you call the shots but the government is changing that
THAT must be changed. It's another federal encroachment on the rights of the People.
They can't only the owner can! see yet one more way the fed steps on your rights! I should not have to expain this to anyone you need to study your constitution and while you are at it check our the declaration of independance and the treaty between the english and US that ended the war!
Jim, I respect your opinion but disagree. I'm glad you are active in 2nd amendment issues; however, Property rights is not the central issue here. Further, if you are going to be open for business that is a totally different issue than your own home. And yes, I would let an armed person into my home but then I am always armed at home. I already have allowed others many times. LEOs and open carriers alike. I don't feel threatened nor do they.

A private residence is not open to the public. You are comparing apples to lumps of coal my friend. What Woodman's is saying is that you may not enter because you are armed. Discrimination. They could outlaw nose rings or leather biker jackets, or tattoos. If you have bad teeth, your check might not be any good. This is a building that is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 24 hours a day.

My home is not open 24 hours a day. If you want to enter, best ask me first. I don't have to ask to enter Woodman's. Well, maybe I do now but generally the public does not need permission to enter Woodman's.

Woodman's has issued an express permission with their signage, newsprint ads and flyers. They have asked you to come into their store without knowing your mind or your intent. Lately their ads sound a little desperate. Entering Woodman's is a little different than you inviting yourself into my home.

True, business has the right to serve whom they choose. For example, you may have noticed all the No Blacks Served Here signs or the No Liberals Served or Jews Not Allowed or maybe you noticed the sign that said, if you hold to the Constitution, embrace Freedom and Liberty, exercise your 2nd Amendment Rights, and carry a gun, get the H-E-double hockey sticks out of here and here's a kick in the slats for good measure.

As for voting with my pocketbook, I do that, Sara Lee and CNN are just two examples of items I do not watch or purchase. There are hundreds of others. I also research most items that I purchase but that is not enough. We must stand up to this liberal garbage and let it be known that we will not put up with it any longer.
David, I feel your pain, but you are confusing the issue. A business owner has the right to dictate the rules within the premises of that business. Signs sometimes point out what certain business owner's policies are.
For example, "Speak English", "Tie and Jacket Required" and "Check in Your firearm". Even today, some hotels and restaurants deny access to their premises to certain ethnic groups. You may find that disgraceful, but they can dictate their own terms.

Even back before the US Marshalls were prowling our frontier towns, some saloons demanded gun free waterholes because of the cowboys that rode in, got drunk and faithfully shot up the establishment. So, if there was no sign and the manager invited you to leave, never to return and took your money anyway, you might have a case for restitution. But that's unlikely because he has every right to ban you if he thinks your gun is a threat to his business. Freedom! Aint it grand?? In this country everyone has the right to make the rules within his or her own private jurisdiction. A private business falls under that understanding.
Freedom works in all directions, and most businesses in most communities across this country have very good reason to fear guns in their establishments! We aren't living in the Wild West anymore, and I agree with Laura that each business owner has the freedom (legitimate right) to decide whether or not guns will be allowed inside their businesses.

There is a huge ongoing struggle now in the courts to decide whether or not employees may legitimately have guns in the trunks of their cars while parked on employer property (where do employee rights end and employer rights begin), and most States haven't yet reached a full agreement on this matter. However, just because a private business serves the general public does not override their freedom to make decisions in their own best interests and security! Let freedom ring!

Woodman's Grocery caves to Progressive's pressure and un-founded fear.
I had to amend this post.

To be fair, we have shopped at Woodman's for years because we liked the people, we've met most of the managers, cashiers have always been very polite, articulate and helpful. We had no complaints. It was my wife's favorite grocery. But that does not make what happened last night OK. It only makes what we have to do, that much harder. The point is that we have no hidden agenda. Nor did we have anything against them. Quite the contrary.

We both lose in this because they chose to restrict our Constitutional Rights to Self Defense. Somehow believing that in their store, societies ills don't exist or apply. They apparently believe no bad people cross their threshold. Un-armed and defenseless does not sound good to me.

If we let them slide on this, it only gets worse. It has to stop somewhere. The way I put it is that up until last night Woodman's and I had a win- win relationship. They have good stuff and I would give them good stuff ($) in return. They treated us cordially and we did the same for them. It was a stunning slap in the face after being such a loyal customer for so long. We've been shopping at Woodman's since it's beginning. To be treated that way was, called out in the middle of the store in front of all the checkouts and then given the word to leave was hugely embarrassing and this after we had shopped and paid for everything. We patronized Woodman's for a majority of our monthly shopping needs but no more. The made sure the got their bottom dollar but left us empty hearted.

When are we citizens, We The People, going to stop taking it. (and you know what I mean.) Show these people that you are there and that you do count and your money counts. Stop hiding. These cretins, continue to restrict your Constitutional Rights and Progressivism continues to gain ground because good men and women do nothing.

This is no small thing. The Progressive/Liberal bias that pervades government is not limited to government but also grows like a virus all around you. What if 'they' continue to take the monetary power they have and use it to limit you further. This is no different than turning your head while someone is being beaten/or raped in a parking lot or on a busy city street. You say, your kidding right? Exaggeration right?

Nope!

Oh yeah, this did just happen.
Rape witnesses are taking heat for not calling 911
Toledo woman says no one helped as she was raped
What is wrong with these people!?!?!?!?!!
If we continue to act like this is a reality show on TV, we will not be around for the end.
Stand up and be counted. This is not just a guy thing either. If women don't stand up and protest this kind of prejudicial attitude and/or Constitutional rights restrictive regulations, you will have no rights.
Enough is enough.

It is time for Conservative, Constitution loving, Free, lovers of Liberty to say in one voice, NO MORE!

Don't allow them to trample your rights any longer. Time to come out and be counted.

For those who are who don't feel that open carry is their thing, for what ever reason, that's OK with me. You don't even have to picket, just don't spend your money there. Show that you do matter and that your rights and opinion do count. Shop at Walmart. Their national policy is to allow open carry.

Let Woodman's and any other enemy of your Constitutional rights feel the loss that they deserve and shop elsewhere. In this difficult time, believe me, it will make a dent. They will feel you. If we make them hurt financially, it will change their mind.

BREAKING NEWS!

This from: ICarry.Org

Update by admin: Woodman's has reviewed any alleged policy and has opted to take the high road and not discriminate against the lawful behavior. Lawful open carry (WI) or container carry (IL) is fine. Follow the law and Woodmans has no problem with you.
________________

I have not yet been able to veryify this from Woodman's but the news does come from Shaun Karnish of ICarry.Org so at this early date I have 98% confidence that this is so.

Stay tuned for further updates as they come in. If in fact this is true, Woodman's has my dollar back with no hard feelings and I will continue to shop and recommend Woodman's as the fine grocery they are.

I would like to thank Mr. Woodman and Quint for rethinking policy and doing the right thing. Thank you all at Woodman's!!!
