I think the question is just what is a Conservative? I believe in God and God given rights. I believe in the tradtional values that have made the Western world great ( no to gay marriage). I believe in personnel freedom and responsabilty. I believe that the Consitution has authority over government and that judges should follow it not make laws out of their head. I also believe that America needs a strong military and has a special place of leadership of the free world. I concider my views mostly in line with Reagan's and yet I have had the Ron Paul/ Pat Buchanan types tell me Im not a real Conservative
I'm from Texas but I currently live in Australia. My parents were conservative Republicans all of my life, and my grandparents had been conservative before them, although at one time they had been Democrat (my uncle's middle name is "Delano"!)
I am a Christian first and conservative Republican second. My conservativism is a direct result of my Christianity. Social conservatism is more important to me than fiscal conservatism, although I do see the link between the two. Without fiscal conservatism the more government is in control, and the more that government controls, the more freedoms we give up. Eventually we will lose, and are losing, freedoms of speech and freedoms of worship. This is something I see happening both in the United States and in Australia. Both countries were founded on democratic principles and have espoused Christian values throughout their histories, but both countries are rapidly losing their moral foundations. I do not believe I can sit idley by without speaking out against this horrible decline
Do you have to stay in the Republican party to be conservative. Seems to me the GOP needs to get back to its roots and fast if its going to stay together. Hmmm maybe the Constitutional Party. I just don't know.
My belief is that mankind has an awesome responsibility to preserve protect and defend freedom from tyranny and injustice. I believe the best way to do that is for people to be responsible for themselves and their own.
I think government has no business in peoples wallets, bedrooms or livelihoods. I believe the government has three missions to build maintain and establish common infrastructure, Regulate international trade coming and going into and out of our country and to insure security and protection of US citizens.
I am a republican because the democratic party has become a liberal left wing conglomerate of counterproductive special interests that are promoting the destruction of the American Culture and way of life.

Why am I a Conservative? That's pretty easy to answer. I have a brain and the ability to think and reason (unlike many of our elected officials). My brain possess the ability to distinguish between fact and BS(unlike the voters who put Obama in office). I am a gun owner, Christian and actually work for a living(unlike many of our citizens). I could be nothing BUT a conservative. Let's hope this fire spreads so we only have 4 years of this Obamination for President.

Very well said ...!!! It is most unfortunate that the majority of people still think we have a 2 party system. Do you not see that no matter who is elected we get the same "trash?" Both parties are being controlled by the CFR! Did you know that about 80% of Obama's cabinet (so far) are CFR members? Yes! The only hope, we the conservatives had was Bush and he destroyed it! He too, as his father, is a puppet of the CFR. We need a third party independent of the CFR, Trilaterals, Bildebergers, etc. If you have no idea who or what these PRIVATE organizations are visit www.stopNAUstopSPP.org

Unless we understand our enemy, we will never win! The enemy is within our government ... the ELITIST forcing us into a North American Union. So far the only thing standing in its path is the US Constitution and they have been and continue working in destroying it. Bush and Obama are no more than puppets. The real forces are behind the scenes.
I am conservative; not registered as a republican, however. In my state I am amongst the many "Declined to State" voters. I am not considered on the religious right, since I have no religious affiliation. So, why do I consider myself conservative? Well, less government is ideal. I despise socialism. As a 3rd generation small business owner, I want to keep as much money as I can so I can spend it as I see fit-hire employees, buy equipment etc! Everyone can't work for the government. This country needs as much business as possible- the government needs the private sector; it cannot support itself. And it is frightening to me to see the government get so out of balance with business. I believe in Gun Rights. I believe in self sufficieny- I am not a fan of welfare. Some personal accountability would be nice if everyone had some! the entitlement syndrome sickens me. My husband and I have worked lots of undesireable jobs, but at least we had one. I do not support unions-blech-they do what they want to, not what is right or best.

So, I am very supportive of Republicans...despite my liberal leanings of Woman's Rights (an issue that seems way too personal to be a political one, IMO) (I say liberal leanings as I am pro-choice- but think there should be limits.) and my belief that the prison system should be reformed. ( I am tough on crime-but not all crime, and some crime we aren't tough enough!) And that gays should be allowed to adopt children, have civil unions etc (the "M" word-I know this is a hot one-again I feel it shouldn't be a political issue) I just don't talk politics with very many friends- I am unique and vote by issue so I have a hard time of it, so as a rule I just don't discuss politics or religion. This Forum is refreshing to see, however.

I believe wholeheartedly that The United States is the best country and I am honored to live here. I appreciate and deeply respect our Military and am humbled by their acomplishments and sacrifices, there are no words to say how I feel about them. They are fighting for the freedom that I enjoy and cherish and can't thank them enough.

Someone else mentioned the global warming hoax-oh yeah can't stand it. What a pack of lies...Al Gore is getting so filthy rich (as his right to) but come on people!!! Remember data can be manipulated many ways!
I am not a Republican. I am a conservative. I believe in an ethical life-affirming politics. I will fight for the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, our freedom, our land our children.

The current power grab orchestrated by the Democrat Congress and President Obama frightens me to no end.

I try to speak out when I can. I've been fortunate enough to be on local radio in Kansas City from time to time to argue politics.

I am a conservative because I have always worked for a living and I don't believe that my government should be taking from me to help people who refuse to do the same. I agree that those who cannot help themselves, or who normally help themselves but temporarily cannot, should be helped. That is a requirement of living in a society.
I guess my core principles are those of the importance of family and responsibility.
I would fight for my family, and my country, but I am currently fighting the despair that comes from watching people around me who are more interested in the latest celebrity scandal than they are in the danger we are in right now. I am amazed that so many people voted for Obama to be "part of history" or because so many celebrities backed him. I am also tired of the venom I get from so many people because I have the nerve to list myself as a conservative.

I am Conservative because I believe in Freedom, which is the foundation of Conservatism. Freedom especially from the Government who uses economic planning over laissez faire economics to take away our individual rights. If the Gov't takes away our economic rights, they have taken away our individual rights which are endowed to us by our creator, and gov't is something created by man.
The core values are:
-Individual liberty
-The rights of Private Property
-The Rule of Law
-Limited Government
-The French suck at everything
-Laissez Faire economics
-Independence from Gov't

I've got a blog post about my views on conservatism if you wish to read more.
I am a conservative because I was raised that you worked for what you got in life. That is the way I raised my kids. I was raised to respect our country and the values it stood for. I was raised to say the pledge of allegiance and sing the star spangled banner. I respect the rights of others and I expect the same. I chose George Washington as my favorite president as he was willing to give up everything for his beliefs. Now we are stuck with a president who is willing to give up all our rights for his beliefs. I believe in limited government and a great place to start would be term limits for all our politicians. They have transformed themselves into a ruling class. I am here looking for ideas on how to take back our country from these traitors that our forefathers would have run out of this country. Mark M.
Why am I a Conservative? Because I have a brain that is not made of jello. Seriously, because I believe in the principles this country was founded on. I believe in The Constitution as it was written and that it is not a living document to be tattered and destroyed. I believe in God, Country, Morality, and family values. I believe in freedom and the right of every individual to make themselves successful at whatever they do. i believein the adage "a man is only as good as the last day he worked". I believe in honor and dignity.
I am Conservative first, Republican second, and American ALWAYS!
If you have a Judeo Christian belief system how could you not be Conservative/Republican? I would say I am a Conservative first and then a Republican. My moral guidance system steers me to conservatism.
