Why you should be concerned about ACORN:• 40% of ACORN's operations are funded by taxpayers
•$31 million total tax dollars given to ACORN, $11 million in 2008 alone.
• Dept of Housing and Urban Development gave ACORN $8.2 million in federal grant and $1.6 million to ACORN affiliates.
• ACORN received $4 million from Service Employees International Unions (SEIU) and its local affiliates.
• The local Chicago SEIU, which was formed through ACORN's efforts, pays rent to ACORN.
• ACORN receives funding from a variety of left-wing, private organizations including the Bauman Family Foundation, George Soro’s Open Society Institute and Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
• ACORN and Project Vote may have violated federal laws. Project Vote is a 501(c)(3) federally tax exempt organization (which means that it is subject to prohibitions on partisan activity. ACORN is not subject to those same restrictions, because it is not federally tax exempt.
• Project Vote’s board members were made of 100% ACORN staff members until 2007.
• According to ACORN’s own attorney, Elizabeth Kingsley, it was impossible to tell whether Project Vote’s money had been used for non-partisan purposes. Kingsley said: “We may not be able to prove that 501(c) (3) resources are not being directed to specific regions based on impermissible partisan considerations.”
• Wade Rathke is one of the ACORN founder. His brother Dale Rathke embezzled $1 million from the organization between 1999 and 2000. He stayed on ACORN payroll for the next 8 years.
• ACORN staff members knew about the embezzlement but conspired to conceal it and kept the information from the full Association Board and did not alert law enforcement.
• Several of ACORN leaders have started to uncover the corruption within their own organization, following the discovery of the multimillion dollar embezzlement. These current and former board members are fighting to reform ACORN but they have hit a road block. Hence, the ACORN 8 was formed (

• ACORN 8 was formed because they believe the real problem with ACORN is its governance – and the lack of transparency and accountability of that leadership. They believe that voter fraud, voter registration fraud, unpaid taxes, unfair labor practices, etc, while tantalizing are not the problem, but merely symptoms of ACORN’s corrupt leadership.
• ACORN 8 believes that ACORN and all its umbrella organizations should not receive any federal funding until ACORN reveals what happened to the last federal funded dollars they received.
• All ACORN entities (more than 200 “ACORN umbrella” organizations) list the address of Citizen Consultant Inc. (CCI) as their main address. All federal grants go to CCI first, then CCI disperses the money to local ACORN chapters/ACORN entities. (
