From here in South Carolina, we, who are Conservatives and have libertarian leanings are bewildered.
Until recently, I thought that we had the very best governor in America.
I have followed Mark Sanford's career as Governor of South Carolina with great interest.
It was heartbreaking to realize that we had a governor, who knew what the proper and moral functions of government were, but he was constantly blocked by a Republican dominated State Legislature, which didn't have a clue about what smaller government and greater individual responsibility was all about.
I was constantly proud of the very strong stands that Governor Sanford took in spite of the RINOs who acted like Socialists in the State House.
Imagine how I feel now.
Governor Mark Sanford made South Carolina the laughing stock of Ameirca.
It is just impossible to place one's faith in any politician anymore.

It is very sad to learn about Gov. Sanford. But Americans have been misled before. Look at the president for example. I do find it hard to believe that Sanford left without letting ANYONE know where he was. That's neglecting his responsibility as Gov. unless of course some one DID know where he was or he had a working cell phone making me reachable.
Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. The recent disclosure doesn't negate what ever good Sanford has done. He did stand strong against the Stimulus and took a beating for it in the South Carolina legislature.
I feel very sorry for his wife if she has read the emails. It's one thing to deal with a meaningless transgression but quite another to deal with such intimate feelings for another woman. I think his marriage is over.
South Carolina isn't a laughing stock in my view. This has happened all over the country and is NOT a partisan issue. Perhaps it is a result of culture changes in the country. The positive that does come out of this is that S.C. now knows how Gov. Sanford handles extreme stress and he had his share. But if he can't handle that he could never lead this country. That job gets heavier and heavier with each election. -

I heard on the radio this afternoon that the news media found the incriminating emails back in January. Funny how the "fair and balanced" mainstream news media waited until now to bring them to light.
