One thing that has come to mind lately is the upcoming attempt of this administration to squash our free speech in the guise of "diversity councils" to determine what can and can't be on the air in various markets.

As you might expect, these things usually wind up populated by jobless lefty miscreants with nothing better to do in their lives than make trouble for other people who are out working hard for a living.

Well, some of us self-employed creative types happen to be Conservatives. And some of us look like we might actually be NON-Conservatives (to use a kind term).

A bit of background...
I am a longhair, because I grew up in the 70s, and we all wanted long hair. I have always liked my long hair. Many of our Founders had long hair. If it was good enough for them, it's good enough for me!

For years, I have felt the stigma of suit jockeys placed upon me because I didn't look like them. I was a suit jockey myself for many years as a programmer. Over a long period of time, I have simply stuck to my principles of hard work, high quality and customer service. I have won some nice work, long hair and all, from some pretty respectable organizations.

Now I no longer feel like an underdog walking into a business environment with my long hair. I'll still put on a suit if I have to, but I'm keeping the hair. My work is good enough that I can do that.

My point is, I can pass myself off as the sort of person who would be readily accepted amongst the more lefty-leaning population. I can run around in Austin, for example, and not even get a second look (unless I wear my fishnet shirt).

So, if enough of us self-employed Conservative Longhairs take advantage of our flexible schedules and start joining these diversity boards, we can act just like the Supreme Court justices who are picked because they seem Conservative, but then swing straight to the left once they are appointed.

We can act to protect free speech in our communities, in opposition to those who would vote out anything they disagree with. The difference with me is, I won't vote down a lib talk show because I don't agree with them. I want them on the air so they can be heard in all their boring, unprofitable glory.

It may be up to us... the flexible, the self-employed... to help defend our freedom of speech. Even with total control of the government, these people still believe they can't compete against us and must completely silence us.

Well... NOT ON MY WATCH!
