Memorial Day is this Monday. While many will celebrate the weekend with hot dogs and cookouts, we need to remember that Memorial Day is a holiday in which we remember those in the military who have given their life for our country.

TCUnation salutes all those who have given their life, served and are serving in the United States military.

About Memorial Day
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 25 in 2009). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. EOTB. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.

My husband and I were watching the movie last night, Taking Chance, and the tears were streaming down my eyes. My husband is a Vietnam vet and he was saddened that the Viet Nam vets were forgotten and were never treated with the respect they deserved.

Who Am I and why do I Deserve This?
Boy as I set here thinking about this I is almost over whamming.
I am 65 years old and I guess I have to say that in growing up I cant really think of anything that I have done that was very beneficial to others. Yes I did get out of school like son many others and got married and raise a family. But somehow that just does not seem to be sufficient.

What am I talking about your ask. Well what I am trying to determine is why did that soldier died for me. In fact that question brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. He did not know me however he was will to go to another country to fight evil and to protect the one thing that we take for granted. “Our freedoms to be what we want to be”

Little do we think about the freedom that they share to be what they want to be, instead we have ignored them, condemn them and in some cases turn our backs on them.
I think about when I go to sleep in my bed in my home that I don’t have to share with anyone unless I want to. When I awaken and sit there looking out my window and see the peace and tranquil outside, where I am free to go without having to ask anyone if I can and go where I want to go without the government telling me f I can go or not.
These things are not possible in other countries in this world, yet we don’t see what we have that others don’t because of that soldier.

Please let us all just think about them and ask “Why did I Deserve for this Soldier to Die for me?”

Taps

Day is done,
gone the sun,
From the hills,
from the lake,
From the skies.
All is well,
safely rest,
God is nigh.

Go to sleep,
peaceful sleep,
May the soldier
or sailor,
God keep.
On the land
or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Love, good night,
Must thou go,
When the day,
And the night
Need thee so?
All is well.
Speedeth all
To their rest.

Fades the light;
And afar
Goeth day,
And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well;
Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise,
For our days,
‘Neath the sun,
Neath the stars,
‘Neath the sky,
As we go,
This we know,
God is nigh.

Thank you my brothers and sisters. May peace be with our veterans, their families, and those that currently serve. You are not forgotten, and may God continue to cradle you in his arms, in the heavens.

I want to thank all of you who served, I owe all my gratitude and love for you. I wish I could sit here tonight and say I also did, but God didn't allow me to do that because of health, it was my dream to spend my life doing that as my father and brothers did. Dad served 23 years in the Army and 2 tours in Vietnam, 1 year in Korea, and 3 years in Germany. I've always been proud to share the stories of my dad, who passed away in 2000, and found it was with "Agent Orange" which never showed up until his latter years. I'm proud of my past 4 generations who served in all the wars with their medals and pictures on my walls, how I wish I could say my picture is there too. but instead I've spent my life doing military art like the helicopter here. I thank all of you, I give my honors to you men and women and your families who served, if I could stand before you I would gratefully shake your hand. thank you!!

May every American have a blessed and meaningful Day of Remembrance of all of those who so generously sacrificed themselves that we might live free.

We truly take a lot for granted. Forget the football 'heroes' and movie 'stars'. Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you,

. . . . Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.

One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.

Amen.

On Memorial day 1987, My Uncle Charles E Bowen past away, how fitting that he pass on this day for he spent his life with the Army serving this great country of ours, in Korea, Germany, 4 tours Vietman, bringing home stories of his adventures while on leave , made us laugh out loud. i was just a child then but I knew her was doing an important job thoght he was not the oney family member to serve Uncle in the Air force, one in the Navy in WW ll, three brother in laws in Vietman two grand sons in the Army now. my husband missed the draft during Vietman becuase the was making armament for the ones that had to fight there .So memorial day is an important day and we should never forget what keeps us free
