I would encourage everyone to get informed about Hoekstra.  He's not Jim DeMint, but he's pretty close, and would finally give Michigan a Senator we can be proud of.

Competing currency being accepted across Mid-Michigan

by Dan Armstrong

New types of money are popping up across Mid-Michigan and supporters say, it's not counterfeit, but rather a competing currency.

Right now, you can buy a meal or visit a chiropractor without using actual U.S. legal tender.

They sound like real money and look like real money. But you can't take them to the bank because they're not made at a government mint. They're made at private mints.

"I sell three or four every single day and then I get one or two back a week," said Dave Gillie, owner of Gillies Coney Island Restaurant in Genesee Township.

Gillie also accepts silver, gold, copper and other precious metals to pay for food.

He says, if he wanted to, he could accept marbles.

"Do people have to accept dollars or money? No, they don't," Gillie said. "They can accept anything they want or they can refuse to accept anything."

He's absolutely right.

The U.S. Treasury Department says the Coinage Act of 1965 says "private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash, unless there is a state law which says otherwise."

That allows gas stations to say they don't accept 50- or $100 bills after a certain time of day in hopes of not getting robbed.

A chiropractic office in Lapeer County's Deerfield Township allows creativity when it comes to payment.

"This establishment accepts any form of silver, gold, chicken, apple pie, if someone works it out with me," said Jeff Kotchounian of Deerfield Chiropractic. "I've taken many things."

Jeff Kotchounian says he's used this Ron Paul half troy ounce of silver to get $25 worth of gas from a local station.

While the government and banks don't accept them, many others do.

So why is there interest in these competing currencies?

Is it just novelty or is there something deeper

I live in Jackson, Michigan and was just informed by a correctional officer that there are 2 more prisons that are closing so the state is letting "lifers" out on parole. These are prisoners that have committed extremely violent crimes, like rape, child molestation, etc... He's scared and so are many of his coworkers. Is the government of Michigan insane???
That's not all, they are also ignoring any "minor"crimes that are committed by the prisomer while he is on parole, of course, unless it's very, and I stress, very violent. I am trying to tell as many people as possible so hopefully we can raise enough of a stink that maybe they'll stop doing this. Maybe that's a pipe dream but it's worth a try.

I'd like to invite everyone to check out a new website named "Michigan's News & Views". I created it for the residents and friends of the State of Michigan. (It's still a work in progress.) I felt the residents and friends of Michigan needed one central location to share general news & information on a variety of topics that are of concern to us here in Michigan, including politics, and hopefully we'll find some common sense solutions to make Michigan a better state. We're also on FaceBook under the same name. I'm still doing basic construction but, would love to have your suggestions & thoughts as we move forward with the construction of the site. So far I have two pages built on our gun rights. One is "Open Carry" (in Michigan) and the other page is "Know Your Rights". There are several other pages in the works.

We'd love to have you join us. There will be much more content added in the coming days...so please hang in there while the site is being constructed. Content posted on the FB group will be added to the appropriate website pages. I've also added a link to TCUnation on our links page to bring more friends over to our groups here too.

Thanks and hope to see you there.... and please invite all of your friends with an interest in Michigan too!

Anyone interested in starting a conservative group on their campus?

My name is Emily and I am with the Leadership Institute here in Washington, DC. I am the Campus Services Coordinator to the Great Lakes Region.

The Leadership Institute can provide students with materials for starting a group, training schools, bringing a speaker to campus, fundraising information, and we provide a great support network for already established groups - all for free! Check us out online at http://leadershipinstitute.org

Please let me know if you or anyone else might be interested. Keep fighting the good fight!

In Liberty,

Emily

I attended the TeaParty event in Washington DC on 9/12. Thanks to the media - I suspect we will have to do it again bigger than the first time. If anyone hears of a site starting to arrange this sort of thing - please post here... as I fully plan to support that movement again ,,, and again,,, and again,, if needed.

No, I won't be donating to the Dems, or any party for that matter. Just to great, no more just good, but great candidates. They have to meet the real qualities of leadership, like actually understanding what it means to "uphold and defend" the constitution.
