I used to be against term limits. I viewed the electorate as the ultimate term limiter. The problem with my view was threefold. 1. Special interests flood the financial coffers making challenging a powerful sitting Congressman or Senator very difficult. 2. The parties (both sides) have a vested interest in keeping incumbants in powerful positions and nearly always back them. 3. Our system relies upon a INFORMED electorate. When candidates simply throw popular platitudes at each other and have no problem breaking campaign promises and a (largely) poorly educated population votes based on unresearched opinions and "important" factors like physical height and hair color it seems to me to be increasingly necessary to inject fresh blood into our system. Recently, others have posed the idea of voting everyone out in the next several elections and starting fresh but I doubt the masses have the will to do it.
