The Zeitgeist, or "Spirit of the time" is to allow for religious freedom to flourish in our public schools and private universities without fail, with one exception, as long as it's not the freedom to practice CHRISTIANITY. In September of 2011, Erin Holt at WKRN-TV in Nashville, Tennessee, reported that the administration at Vanderbilt University is requiring all campus organizations to comply with their non-discrimination policy.  Stephen Siao, President of the College Republicans at Vanderbilt said, "The policy that they've asked the groups that are in question to change now is basically delete from their constitution any regulation that says you have to profess a certain faith or lead a bible study to be a leader in the group." In effect, this could conceivably allow a group of people who disagree with the religious viewpoint of a group to shut them down by showing up with a large group of people and voting for leaders that disagree with the core beliefs and purpose originally intended by the founding members of the organization.

In a letter to Vanderbilt Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos, Kim Colby, Senior Counsel for the Christian Legal Society at Vander... wrote, "...A university cannot aspire to promote religious diversity on campus while instituting a policy that religious groups cannot expect their leaders to lead religious studies, prayer, and worship.  How can religious diversity exist if the Catholic group must allow Baptist student to lead its worship, or a Jewish group must allow Christian students to lead its study of the Torah?  Is the university really insisting that a Muslim student group accept a pantheist as its prayer leader?...."

Recently, according to the Jeff Karoub of the Associated Press in an article published in Bloomberg Business Week,

protesters in Allen Park, Michigan in December 2011 were standing outside the Lowe's store chanting "God Bless America and shame on Lowe's." According to Dr. David Fowler, President of the Tennessee Family Action Council, they were doing so because it (Lowe's) chose not to continue advertising a new network reality.... In the article titled,"The Lowe-down on Religous Discrimination in Tennessee", Mr. Fowler added that a U.S. Congressman from Michigan threatened some kind of legislation against the home improvement chain. He asked the pointed question,"So what might be the difference?  Why are politicians in Washington and in a couple of states so outraged about Lowes' decision and not equally exercised about a nationally-known case of religious intolerance here in Tennessee?" Dr. Fowler then answered his probing question with,"It seems to me that the major distinction is the particular religion that is at issue.  Liberal politicians will fall all over themselves to placate and accommodate Islam and its promotion and propagation; however, for them Christianity, the religion involved in the Tennessee situation, is at the root of the evils of Western Civilization and, by extension, the evils they see in American culture.

Dr. Fowler's position is fortified by a dispute arising at Carver Elementary School in San Diego, CA. Michelle Malkin, posted on http://michellemalkin.com  that  Helen Gao of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that a substitute teacher publicly condemned an Arabic language program that gives Muslim students time for prayer during school hours. The substitute claimed that religious indoctrination was taking place and said that a school aide had led Muslim students in prayer. Reportedly Carver was providing a 15-minute break in the classroom each afternoon to accommodate Muslim students who wish to pray. It appears that the San Diego Unified School District is not equal in its accommodation of ALL religions, because the district was sued in 1993 when it denied a University City High School student's request to hold lunchtime Bible fellowship.

In a February 2011 Rasmussen poll, 65% of Americans favor public school prayer. Accommodations are being made for Muslim students to pray within the public schools. Part of The First Amendment actually says, "No one shall prevent the free exercise thereof" regarding religion. Now that the Muslims are being allowed to engage in public school prayer in San Diego, the moment has come for liberals to decide which is more important to them: Protecting the rights of Muslims OR Denying the rights of Christians.
