UPDATE:
We created a Memorial Day group for those wanting to honor men and women who have given their life serving in the US military. Post your comments and images - Memorial Day Group

Memorial Day is this Monday. While many will celebrate the weekend with hot dogs and cookouts, we need to remember that Memorial Day is a holiday in which we remember those in the military who have given their life for our country.

TCUnation salutes all those who have given their life, served and are serving in the United States military.

About Memorial Day
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 25 in 2009). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. EOTB. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.

i took pics but have not posted them - it was a truly great day for America to see people honoring the fallen and the veterans who were lucky enough to survive, as well as current heroe's fighting for the same reason we have been for years

God Bless America and God Bless Our Most Precious Resource

We hung our flag this weekend for all those who have given their lives for our beautiful, wonderful country! We hung our flag in memory of Spc. Richard Martinez, died in Iraq 2002 and 1LT. Frank B. Walkup IV, died in Iraq in 2007. May they rest in peace.

The only way to repay a soldier is to live the life he or she fought for.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Memorial day is the day we have set aside to honor those who have given their lives for us and others, however, let me suggest another group who have given nearly as much. I am a veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict, I had a cousin who served in the Army, and pulled 2 tours of duty over there. When he came home the second time and was discharged, the things he saw and had to do came with him. He slept with a loaded and cocked 45 under his pillow, and on more than several occasions woke in the middle of the night screaming and firing his pistol in his home with his wife and children sleeping next to him or nearby. His mind at times would return to the horrors that he witnessed and he would spend anywhere from minutes to hours immersed in that part of him memory. One night in particular, he was driving home from work and this happened. He became engulfed in the memory of some unforgettable nightmare to him and became violent. When the police arrived he was throwing people off a bridge into the water and he managed to throw several of the police off before they could subdue him. Finally it took nearly a dozen officers to wrestle him under their control. However his nightmare continued. When he arrived at the police station the police savagely beat him in the elevator they were transporting him in to his cell. a couple of days later he died from the injuries they inflicted upon him. My point in telling this horrible story is to let you know that I not only honor those who have died for this country in combat, but I also honor all those who came home and later died as a result of the wars they fought off the battlefield. Semper Fi!!!

Behind every number in the casualty list, their are families, friends, and communities left with broken and lonely hearts. Those sacrifices, therefore, that we remember and honor today extend beyond the simple numbers and weave themselves throughout the very fabric of America. As we remember with thanksgiving for our freedom, let us pray from our hearts of compassion for all of those touched and changed forever by the gift of freedom preserved with the precious blood of those ultimate patriots - both living and dead.

Sigsbee Naval Air Station, Key West, Florida,
God Bless all the men and women who served and also those falling solders who protected myself and my family from harm. One question I have, why in the hell would the american people elect a person not born in this country, who doesn`t stand up for us Americans with foriegn countries, who wants to let all those captured terroists and detained go in Cuba. Her just doesn`t get it, we live in a world that most of the countries want harm to come to us. There not our friends and if we don`t watch him closely, life as we know it, our mothers and fathers know it, and espesally our children know it will cease to exist!! Believe this, harm will come to the people of the United States if we as a people don`t stand up against this President Obama and Impeach him. Trying to be friends with the very counties that want nothing but harm to come to us is really scaring me and others. It`s time for change all-rite, We all need to Pray to God to keep us safe, God knows, This President is going to let us be invaded if we don`t do something about him and his Administration Folks!!!
