Contrary to what liberal politicians and idiot celebrities think (those who deem themselves the ruling class of America) there is nothing controversial about the Arizona immigration law.
All the law does is take what is already a federal crime and also make it a state crime so Arizona officials can hold illegal aliens in local and state prisons. According to the state law they are not to racial profile and only to ask for immigration status of criminal suspects who have been caught red handed. All of this mirrors the federal law. So the controversy is merely political. Mexicans who are against it have something to lose because they are on the wrong side of the law. Scheming Democrats and those weak kneed Republicans are against it because they merely see this issue in terms of potential voters if amnesty and citizenship is granted.
America and Arizona has a right to protect its sovereignty, its culture, its heritage that, contrary to what Mexicans think, is separate from Mexico's. Our nation that has prospered for over 200 years, was founded by reasonable protestant men, of mostly British heritage, who preferred civility to bloodshed but was not at all afraid of a fight. Years they tried to reconcile with Britain before declaring its independence and in that time they grew a resistance that could fight in the trees and in the bushes but still respected order and discipline. Our society may be more brazen, rough around the edges and free compared to Europe but we were ever more a nation of laws and order. Yet America is also a merciful nation, a nation who once prided itself of Christian virtue (not the type that is mandated from a bishop but) that came from people who also were governed by the knowledge of the word of God. Sadly as more of today's Americans fail to learn the lessons of their nation's history, and political hacks have attempted to rewrite much of it, many Americans (both with roots to the colonies, and previous immigration waves) are joined in an ignorant class of people that the politicians and the media continually take advantage of because of their stupidity.
Meanwhile, Mexico, like most latin American countries, suffer from an underclass society, where tyranny and/or corruption has been allowed to prosper. Oh sure you can call them a Catholic nation and I'm not saying they don't pray to God, or all Mexicans are bad. I'm not saying their all heathens but what I am saying is that the fruits of their faith, of their history has produced a nation where instead of fixing its own problems the Mexican government is telling people how to work and live illegally in America. A nation that has remained in poverty despite the aid that America has given it. A nation where its government has only until recently (when they have become threatened themselves) has decided to put on a show of force against the drug trade that has spread into Arizona, where drug runners have murdered, stolen and in some cases ceased property of American homeowners. So when US Homeland secretary Janet Nepolatiano says the borders look fine, or as fine as they ever have, she is either lying or misrepresenting the truth because this problem along the border has been going on since the Bush years.
Mexicans who continue to come here illegally and those who continue to house them and give them work are all breaking the law, cheating their neighbor by dodging taxes, wasting America's generous healthcare services, and robbing American children of their birthright. It's bad enough that in sports, professional and college teams will go out of their way to bring a kid from another country over here to give them an edge instead of letting American kids grow up to play America's game. In the end this issue boils down to greed. Greed of Americans who like cheap labor, or will throw away their national identity to gain an advantage and it is greed of Mexicans who may or may not be hardworking but have stiffed the nation that employs them by failing to assimilate into American culture and learn its language and history and failing to pay their share in the nations expenses.
The illegal Mexican society is a society of ingrates. Perhaps amnesty would be more favorable if they they did three things to win sympathy:
1.stop waving the Mexican flag everywhere they go,
2. learn English,
3. not be so eager to cling to their Mexican heritage but instead admit that their country is a harbor for despotism and swear theirs and their family's devotion to the United States of America.
I use to consider myself fair weathered on this issue, understanding why people want to come to America but I as an American have rights to protect my nation and my heritage so I can pass it down to my children. It is a duty of every American to maintain and hand down this birthright to all future generations. So when I see streets filled with illegal immigrants marching, demanding of their hosts and threatening the peace through loud voices, cardboard signs, and rocks and bottles, being thrown as weapons, I see a group of invaders who would rather see American society erased, permanently, then become a lawful and equal member of that society. I see a group of people who simply seek to stretch the borders of Mexico northward and rob and pillage the goods and resources of properties that do not belong to them. The only problem with that way of thinking is how long do they think the good times can last? Expanding Mexico ultimately only makes the problem bigger. Borders at the very least protects Americans, who are innocent of the plight that Mexicans have put on themselves, from the deterioration of American society that these invaders seek.
Lastly these laws change nothing about America and it openness to those in the world that still sees our country as a "city on a hill." America still has one of the most flexible and accessible pathways to legal immigration. Not that there is no room for improvements but try stumbling into Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and see where that generally lands you. Yet if this problem is allowed to persist then maybe Americans should invade Europe, as a massive wave of illegal immigration, and see how quickly the hypocrites in their governments change their tone on Arizona's law. Truth is many people immigrate into this country legally and become citizens. So bottom line is if your from another country and want to become an American, truly and honestly, then respect its sovereignty first and follow the path to immigration and then citizenship.
