Salt and Light Council Educating Churches on Moral Issues From a Biblical Perspective

On Saturday September 8th, members and prospective members of the the Salt and Light Council met at the First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, California in order to equip representatives of churches in California to be able to enlighten their members and fellow Christians on what the Bible says about moral issues and how to convey that in a non-partisan manner.  According to their website, the mission of the Salt and Light Council is to train and equip churches to network together to defend and advance life, traditional marriage, and liberty through a ministry in citizenship. Individual Salt and Light Ministry affiliates exist to pray for our state, nation, world, and elected officials.

One of their main goals is to inspire, equip, and empower the church body to defend and advance Christian life, marriage, and family values. They seek to engage the body to take action on issues presented by the Salt and Light Council in order to fulfill the mission: Mobilizing churches to stand together for truth, and moral and legal issues, because if churches are working together, we have impact, but when we are divided, we will continue to fall. Another function of the Salt and Light Council is to update pastoral staff on issues and legislation for united action between pastoral staff, leaders, and body. This ministry can help to transform secular worldview Christians into committed Christians with a biblical worldview.  They can then reach people for Christ using educational resource material available from the Salt and Light Council. Training and education from dedicated Salt and Light Coordinators can assist in the development of values conscious voters who will defend this country, uphold its values, and use their influence in local communities, culture, and government.  The development of values voters also will raise up future local community leaders that support and uphold Biblical standards in government. This Saturday event preceded a similar national event also geared toward focusing believers on the serious issues at hand this weekend.  On Sunday, September 9th a forum focusing on family values is being simulcast in churches throughout the country by Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council,  I Pledge Sunday.  A news conference was held at First Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina prior to the simulcast with Tony Perkins, Pastor Mark Harris, Senator Rick Santorum, and Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr.
