As the days go by, many are starting to muddle through the wreckage left by the Supreme Court Ruling that upheld the legislation of national financial doom officially known as the Affordable Care Act, and more commonly known as Obamacare. The one question that few have answered, or even ASKED for that matter is: If everyone is entitled to free healthcare..........AND..........if people are entitled to be fairly compensated for their work, is it FAIR for doctors to work on a state salary? With the exorbitant cost of medical school, the obvious and practical answer is, "NO it is NOT fair to the doctor who has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for medical school to work 16 hours a day and get paid $80,000 a year or less. By the time malpractice insurance and the monthly payment for medical school is made, the doctor is left feeling overworked, overstressed, and quite frankly, like they are working for practically nothing. If Obamacare is not repealed, the end result will be fewer and fewer well qualified people entering the profession of medicine. In her article, "A Surgeon Cuts to the Heart of the ObamaCare Nightmare"
Stella Paul addresses the effects of Obamacare through the eyes of her friend, who is an extremely dedicated, and much loved surgeon. The article addresses a truth that most conservative thinkers are keenly aware of, the ingenuity and creative spirit fueled by capitalism has resulted in many of the advanced technologies that benefit modern medicine. As medical care becomes socialized, the incentive to excel is decreased because there no longer is financial incentive to pursue excellence. Just as creativity and motivation in the industrial world is stifled when businesses are given additional tax burden, the ability of the medical sector to render its most efficient service and care is hindered by the inception of socialized medicine. It certainly is no accident that numerous Canadian citizens cross the border into the United States to have necessary medical procedures performed on them. The universal health care system in Canada has created waiting lists so long, that people either die or are irreparably harmed while they are waiting for the surgery that they need.
However, the possible silver lining in the current situation is that the November 2012 election will provide a very likely scenario in which the GOP will increase its majority in the House of Representatives, regain the majority in the Senate, and retake the White House. If that indeed is the case, conservatives can only hope that Speaker of the House John Boehner, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will keep their word. Mr. Boehner and Mr. McConnell have vowed to attempt an all-out repeal of Obamacare, BEFORE the election.
If this is unsuccessful, which a vote along party lines in the Senate would inevitably produce that result, then the hope of most conservatives would lie in another attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act in February of 2013 after a favorable result in the November 2012 election.
