Honor Flight is an organization that provides World War II vets and terminally ill patients from other conflicts free travel to Washington, D.C. to tour memorials.
HONOR FLIGHT (H/T Liz T) is now a feature-length documentary that chronicles a community coming together to honor living World War II veterans, one last time. The film follows a devoted team of Midwest volunteers as they race against the clock to send every local WWII veteran to the Washington, DC memorials built in their honor. The more they do, the more the cause takes on a life of its own.
This film captures Honor Flight from the point of view of the volunteers and veterans, who share their war and life stories along the way. The trip itself is a profound event, filled with surprises and acts of appreciation from a grateful nation. The all-but-forgotten veterans are heroes once again. The vets, volunteers and even complete strangers are often moved to tears by the power of the experience.
After the trip, many vets say it was one of the greatest days of their lives. For many, Honor Flight is their first visit to Washington, DC, and the very last trip they’ll ever take.
In a time of economic uncertainty and political division, Honor Flight is a unifying story about gratitude and freedom. The film is meant to inspire viewers to reflect on the freedom and opportunity they have been gifted. Honor Flight prompts viewers to recognize the Greatest Generation, not just by saying “thank you,” but by striving to lead lives worthy of their legacy.
Our mission, Operation Resolve, is simple: send every living World War II veteran to the stunning memorial created in their name in Washington, DC, before it’s too late.
To help make that happen and to tell the remarkable stories of these heroes, Stars and Stripes Honor Flight teamed up with Freethink Media to produce a feature length documentary film to be released on August 11, 2012 at Miller Park – the Milwaukee Brewers baseball stadium.
Shooting for two years, filmmakers Dan Hayes and Clay Broga have captured profound scenes with the vets and their volunteers, emotional interviews, and breathtaking shots of the Honor Flight trip to DC. ”Every day is a bonus,” is the motto of Honor Flight and it’s a sentiment that rings true for the men who fought and those of us who continue to benefit from their service and sacrifice.

It’s typical for a vet who takes the trip to rank it among their top life experiences, just behind their wedding and the birth of their children. For us to help provide that for them, is nothing short of remarkable. Now, you can help.

HonorFlightStories.com presents ‘Ryan’s Story’ – the first short video in our series to honor living World War II veterans, leading up to the premiere of the feature film Honor Flight.
Ryan Jazak is a volunteer for Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, a nonprofit hub out of Wisconsin that flies WWII vets to see their memorial in Washington, DC, at no cost to them. And he rides a sweet Harley!
Ryan posted on Facebook that he was selected as a “guardian” to accompany vet Al Exner on an Honor Flight. Ryan posted on Facebook that he was going to have a tough time coming up with the money to pay his way. His friends responded with their support and the checks poured in — including a large check from Ryan’s brother, Eric Jazak USMC who is stationed in Afghanistan.
People like Ryan are stepping up all across America. To learn more about this project, the upcoming film, and how you can get involved, visit HONOR FLIGHT STORIES
